I am glad I read the novella before this to fill in details. Still I wish the time jump hadn't been so long. I love how the series is going to make it new but consistent.

Ilona Andrews never fails to deliver a compelling story! It's my second reading of Sapphire Flames and yet I was just as glued to the pages as the first time.

Catalina's a very different person from her sister, but that's to be expected because House Andrews are very good at establishing human-like characters with all their strengths and weaknesses. It was interesting to see the world from her head, especially with that comparison that her grandmother makes towards the end -- who Catalina might become as the head of house.

A mysterious action-packed story that is 200% worth reading. Drop everything and jump in.

(This is my second time reading the book. This time, I listened to the audiobook, which is also very good.)

An easy happy ending for Catalina after the brief (possibly considered romantic) encounters with her Romeo in the previous books is obviously too good to happen, so what does Ilona and Gordon do to Alessandro?
Make him a deadly assassin where the playboy persona was all a front
🤣 I live for that extra level of deception. Their interactions with each other are very funny. My favourite scene is the one with the pepper xD.

I'm no longer surprised that these authors can make me be fully on the side of the new main protag (Catalina), to the point where I'm upset with a character that I had met first (Nevada). It's cool that I'm able to see N's flaws so clearly from Catalina's point of view. They've done something similar with George in the Innkeeper Chronicles (another excellent series they've written).

The overall plot for this arc should be interesting. It's part of the find-the-missing-objects-before-it-ends-the-world trope family, but fixed in a way that makes it unique to this world 😊 The goal isn't revealed until later in the book after Catalina does the work to uncover it. A nice bit of mystery for you.
