Meh. I liked Hades, but I wanted more of his backstory. I thought Persephone was an annoying twit. The setting was interesting but needed way more development and explanation. The steamy scenes were okay, nothing amazing but serviceable. Nothing blew me away.

It's awful. If you want sex this has that. There's no character building. You don't know anything about them.

I feel like 2 stars looks really harsh, because I didn't NOT like it lol. It was a fun, quick read, but it just was lacking in the plot and romance build-up for me. Compared to all the other romance books (and books in general) this year that I've rated 3 stars or higher, this just read more like a fanfiction at times than a romance. It kind of gave me fifty shades of grey (the movie) vibes, where it definitely had potential, but just fell a little flat for me. I think, personally, there was just too much going on. The plot, the smut, the relationship; I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high from al the hype I was seeing surrounding the book initially, but they just didn't gel in a consistent enough way for me to rate it higher. Either way, I do own the whole series now, so I will still be checking out the next two books!

wow okay i don’t think i’ve ever devoured a book quite like this one. neon gods is a very interesting take on the hades/persephone story that we all know and love and i have to say i enjoyed it. there were definitely things i would have liked to have happen, but overall it was a very solid book.
