It's an erotica story about persephone and hades. The book is incredibly slow to start. There are literally chapters that could have been removed for you to still achieve the same ending. It is a very quick read. I almost dnf'd this book but I just simply don't do that. An honest review cannot be made unless you read its entirety. The version of hades in this book does have moments of where he pulls on the heart strings. Persephone is obnoxious and frankly I don't understand how anyone would want her. This book is part of a series I won't continue to read.

Just wasn’t for me, the concept of a neo-noir/gangster Greek pantheon was intriguing but ultimately fell flat and felt contrived/useless. The characters could’ve literally been named anything else and you wouldn’t be able to tell it was meant to be a retelling. And then I realized I just didn’t care about any of the characters or whether Zeus was actually terrible (though I’m sure he is, he always is) or whatever mystery was hinted at about Hades and what happened between him and Zeus.

Synopsis: A spicy modern retelling of Persephone and Hades. That's it, that's the entire plot.

Review: This is one of those books that you read for the vibe and not for the plot. I think it read well enough, but genuinely I didn't understand how the modern part works. It was pretty much not explained how the real world and this modern Olympus co-existed and how anything worked. I struggled with that as I do love fantasy, but this world building was terrible.

The love story is as expected with the forbidden love aspect as Persephone makes her way to the lower city to the supposedly dead Hades. Of course, he is actually a big softie on the inside who takes pity on Persephone and then also has a sex dungeon...

It feels very 50 Shades of Grey, but supposedly Greek Mythology based, but only in name? None of the story really follows Greek Mythology and doesn't really make sense which is why it didn't get as high of a rating from me. I think that it was a good romance story, but didn't quite accomplish what it was going for.

Overall, if you like romances that are spicy, then this would be for you! If you want more of the retelling aspect, there are definitely better Persephone and Hades retellings that exist.
