This Volume bounced back for me after Volume 4.
I enjoyed getting into Nick's head a bit more and also seeing him grow closer with others from the friend group. The rugby scene at Leeds Uni was so precious with him feeling so at him and picturing himself there. Was also really nice to see Charlie shine on stage.

Think the book also handled sexual relationships for teenagers well and the discussion of what is sex and also asexuality was nicely done.

I'll be curious to see how the story ends and how university goes for them.

The fourth book is still my favorite so far, but I did of course love this one too 😊 I love seeing Nick and Charlie's relationship evolve and at a nice pace rather than the faster than light pace expected of teens usually. The sexual attraction part is hard for me to wrap my asexual head around lol but I did appreciate that they gave each other the time and space to feel ready for sex and that "sex" didn't automatically equal penetration and nothing else. Oseman is such a genius about writing about these topics in a sweet but meaningful way.

I love seeing Charlie progressing in his mental health journey. I also love seeing more of Charlie interacting with Tori, especially when it's about her asexuality.

The stuff about Charlie going to college soon was making me so sad, not only because the idea of them being apart is sad but also because Nick being worried about leaving Charlie is so touching. Because he's not only worried about Charlie but for himself and the progress he's made in finding himself in large part because of Charlie. Those scenes though of him imagining his life at college even if he's not sure where he'll go career-wise or anything are so lovely. And I like that it ended with them both real zing that they'd be okay and aren't totally codependent, that they have other great people in their lives too.

A brief break from reading The Poppy War trilogy for the latest installment in this big, warm, soft hug of a series! Nick and Charlie contemplate the next step in their relationship, while Nick looks at unis and Charlie faces opportunities at school in several forms. Lovely, affirming, sweet, real, and cozy as always!
