read this is one sitting- “I remember thinking that I needed to discuss this with John” will stay with me, as will much of this book.

Elena's dreams were about dying.
Elena's dreams were about getting old.
Nobody here has not had (will not have) Elena's dreams.

DID NOT FINISH: 18%

Majorly bad for my mental health lmao

This books is incredibly heartbreaking but also incredibly repetitive. Didion probably wrote 10 times in the first view chapters that her husband died on december 30 2004 and that her daughter was in the hosptal close to death wich is sad and as a mother propaly drives you insane but as a reader this book became more boring with each chapter.

slow-paced

It was fine but the piano music that played at the beginning and end of the chapters was so loud and distracting
