When I first read the premise of this book, I didn't think I'd enjoy reading it. But after seeing the rave review that Gavin from Youtube give it, I decided to give it a try.
Boy was I wrong in thinking that it was going to be boring!
This book was soooooo good! I think my favorite part of it was the descriptions of the environment. I felt like I was there with the characters in every scene. And the characters themselves? So much fun! I laughed, cried, was angry along with Marinka through this whole book.
Five stars all the way!

Suka banget sama ceritanya plus sampulnya cantik.
Kalau nggak baca ini, kayanya ngga bakalan mengenal cerita mitos atau legenda dari Rusia. Baba Yaga adalah cerita tentang para Guardian yang membimbing arwah menuju gerbang keabadian. Kalau suka sama cerita kaya gini, di Whichwood juga nyeritain hal yang sama.
Tapi, di sini tuh, sampai nama-nama minuman pun berasal dari Rusia. Bisa mengenal budaya negara lain melalui buku anak kaya gini tuh bikin senang.
Namanya juga buku middle grade. Pastinya kisahnya tentang dunia anak. Meski si Marinka ini kaya anak balita yang demen tantrum. Tapi, masuk akal karena siapa sih yang mau ngehabisin waktu sendirian. Cuma ketemu sama nenek dan burung gagaknya doang? Padahal dia pengen banget berteman dan juga pastinya penasaran gimana rasanya punya sahabat.
Gaya menulisnya enak banget. Ngga bikin bosen. Cuma, momen perubahan Marinka yang tadinya masih ngeyelan terus tiba-tiba jadi baik dan nrimo dalam waktu 4 hari. Sepertinya terlalu cepat dan alasannya kurang kuat. Meski yaa emang she's up to something. Tapi, cuma bagian itu aja yang ga begitu kusuka. Sisanya? suka banget!

this was a reread, I first read it when I was 12/13 and now re reading it as a 16 years old is still amazing. it's an amazingly written book, so beautiful with a really enjoyable and interesting plot. the characters are very lovely and I felt so immersed in the book's story and kinda wished I was in it.

4.5 for me. Quick and easy read. I loved the different characters, especially the house, and the plot was both fun and somber. I found Marinka frustrating at times, but I suppose that's true of most adolescents
