Great book with great and realistic characterization. I too fell into the main character’s trap of Hoping things would get better for her without any action. I really wanted that for her. Excited to read more of Rum’s writing :-)

I felt I was being beaten over the head with her description of inequality and I found the characters too simplistic.
I found it exasperating to read.

I really enjoyed Etaf’s first novel A Woman is No Man, so I was looking forward to reading this second one. This book was fine, but it was basically exactly the same as the first book, just different characters. The author did way too much “telling” instead of “showing” in my opinion and said the same kinds of things over and over again throughout the story. It’s obviously an important topic that’s worth reading and educating yourself about, (and as a woman I’m ALL for female empowerment!) but it was just nothing new or different than her first book so it’s 3 stars for me.
