Shockingly, this is a book in which I believe the movie was better. The book was romantic and emotional, as was the movie, but it’s generally just a lot of talking and there’s not a ton of plot. The movie really added a lot to make it watchable and, for me, the movie is my preference.

February 2023 - Romance

For me, a book review also means the story behind my reading of that particular book. This book was sitting unread on my dorm table for a couple of years, and I borrowed it from my friend Fariha on whose tabke it sat for another couple of years, and before that she had borrowed it from her another friend (...). So at this point, none of us has any idea who the original owner of this book is!

I've felt three things reading this book-
  1. A deep urge to live like Noah, surrounding by the nature, doing things that make me happy, enjoying the little things.
  2. Really afraid to get old.
  3. Realizing again, that Romance is not my genre :'3

This was a solid good book. I watched the movie first a while ago and it is very different to the book. In the movie Noah was unlikable to me but in the book he is poetic and beautiful. I find it interesting how this book spans a whole lifetime almost and how it dips between both Ally’s and Noah’s thoughts. It was sad, tears were shed, and it was beautifully written. The descriptions were lovely. It wasn’t, to me, ‘the love story to end all love stories’ as described on the cover but it was good. Very short.

My favorite part of the whole book was the ending. When Noah and Allie are old and Noah is talking about his life now and then. It makes me sad to think about that kind of pain at the end of your life.
