Cute little story set in Paris at Christmas. Read aloud with my kids. We had to look up some of the French words for pronunciation and context.

A super cute story, but had some pretty big stereotypes in it. It was written in the ‘50’s so I guess I understand the writing of it, but i don’t think it’d fly nowadays lol

although may have been progressive in its time seems only slightly better than patronizing.

This book was a cute story, the language is a little antiquated for my students. I felt a little uncomfortable with this as a read aloud with some of the religious connotations. A sweet book, but not one I will read again.

The Family Under the Bridge was a book my mom read out loud to my sisters and I when I was younger. I didn't remember much from it, but decided to pick it up again partly because of nostalgia and partly because it involves Christmas. The story is one that is touching in all the right ways and reminds you of the value of being generous to other people.

I felt like there were a lot of Parisian terms but not as much explanation of what was what, which led to a lot of confusion for my kids.

Simply told, but full of details allowing the reader to see and feel the moments, the longing for place, for food. Love the Paris scenes. Vivid, loveable characters. Explores homelessness, family, pride, appreciation.
