If you have any triggers, this book might not be for you. I say it with every book I read of Jon’s, but he does NOT miss with the graphic descriptions! I normally don’t have any triggers when it comes to reading, but I did often find myself making a stank face while reading. I devoured this book in a week, it was SO SO good!
With most of Jon’s books, it is un putdownable book, and this one was no different. It was sooo vile yet I HAD to know what happened next, so it was definitely a page turner.
The storyline was fantastic, and so were the characters. You follow this family in an apocalypse.
Thank you for another fantastic read Jon.

Very entertaining, but just not a good quality book. Although, that is par for the course with the splatterpunk genre.

Although a very well written book and a very cool story, this one just did not have the gut punch that some of his other books had for me. Still a very good story

Imagine a post apocalyptic world where what ends up being the new drug of choice? You probably didn’t guess it, babies. Without warning, the world gets turned upside down for the Turner family when people around them start being attacked. Soon enough, babies are being taken and killed for their blood. Now this family must do whatever they can to survive, WHATEVER they can.

This book was definitely a trip for sure. An extreme horror, it had its moments of mayhem that made me cringe and also the absurd moments that I just couldn’t help but laugh at. I had an idea of what this book would be like going into it, and it was exactly what I figured it would be, a crazy absurd gore fest. However, what I didn’t expect was that I’d actually like our main character! Typically with extreme horror I find it always lacking that character bond I enjoy with other books. I love to care about who I’m on a journey with especially with these types of books, if you don’t enjoy the characters then you’re sort of just in for a blood fest which isn’t always a bad thing but I certainly enjoy a good well written character. I found myself rooting for Brian and his family the whole way through and loved his heroism for his family. This man knew when to make hard choices for his family and did what he ultimately needed to do no matter what.

The reason I am giving it 3 stars after all my positive rave is because I enjoyed it, but it really isn’t something I think will be memorable for me in the long run. I found myself getting bored a little over halfway into the story, and was just ready to get to the end. That being said though, I would recommend this book to fellow extreme horror fans! I think it was a fun twist on the post apocalyptic story it just wasn’t completely for me.

If you’re looking for a gore fest with an enjoyable, likable character then look no further! But please remember this is definitely not for everyone (hence, the title), so please check trigger warnings before diving into this one.

WTAF did I just read! This is a well written post-apocalyptic story full of emotion, action and loaded with gore. I recommend this to anyone who loves extreme horror. This book is only for veteran splatterpunk fans. One of Jon Athan's very best.

I have read some nasty vomit inducing books and can stomach them fairly well. Not much gets me too nauseated or triggered. But… I’m forever scarred from the “Pick-A-Pepper” portion of this book. Good lord.
