I was so afraid to read this book. As a mother, this isn’t a horror if want to even think about. While I love a good gorefest, there were times where it was almost too much and I found myself cringing a nauseated. That said, this book was full of apocalyptic terror and had me on the edge of my seat. The writing was descriptive and I was able to visualize every disgusting detail.

This splatterpunk has the splatter and the punk in spades. It's gory and gruesome and it's got a lot to say about society: our priorities and our weaknesses and how quickly it all goes down when things hit the fan. It was an absolutely gross, wild ride of a book that I would highly recommend only to a select few. You have to have a strong stomach for this one.
My one issue was the ending.
After all that we had been through in this book, I felt like I wanted something more concrete at the end. The vague cut off of that final two sentences didn't really do it for me. I would have been fine with the ambiguity of Brian running down the tunnel, never knowing if they make it out of the city, if the Craze ever ends, etc. So I'm just pretending it ended right before the Lord of the Flesh reappeared.

I always enjoy Athan’s books but I have to say, BB is probably one of my favorites. Gory, fast paced and I also enjoyed the characters. It was over the top but that’s honestly how I prefer my horror! I really hope that he writes a sequel or something else in the same world. Maybe another POV even!?
