I've been working on this book since 2018, and instead of getting sick and tired of it (and I should be, after all the revisions I've had to do... it had to be shortened for my former agent and then lengthened again when he was no longer in the picture, and I decided to not have it be "only" for kids...)

But I'm not sick of it. In fact, I'm more in love than ever with Louise than I thought possible. This book is a man looking back over the decades to the summer that changed his life and, in a sense, a love letter to the girl who made it happen.

I like to tell people it makes me think of being inside the Radley house looking out. There's a whole world out there if you choose to go out; there's a whole world inside if they can find their way in.

As with [b:This Great Wilderness|59041221|This Great Wilderness|Eva Seyler|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1632160310l/59041221._SY75_.jpg|93088109], this book features autistic characters (George and his mother) who, because it's historical, can't be referred to as such in the text. I hope you love these characters as much as I do, because there are two more installments to come. <3
