✨ 4.5 STARS ✨

I’d worked my way from the pits of despair, to the highs of false hope, through the battlefields of anger, and had finally arrived at acceptance. I was resigned to our fates.

This one was not what I thought it would be, but that wasn’t a bad thing! I was glad we got almost as much Knight as we did Harley. It was more of a love triangle than I was expecting, which I usually don't love unless it's done right. Well, here it was done right, probably because it was believable and because I knew it wasn't going to end well. (Side note: I am going to be vague, but there will be slight spoilers for [b:Skin|43557045|Skin (44 Chapters, #1)|B.B. Easton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547416286l/43557045._SY75_.jpg|53798132], the previous book in the 44 Chapters series.)

Hell, I think he was fucking happy. I used to be happy, too, before everything turned to shit. Being around Harley helped me remember what that felt like.

Speed begins not long after the events of Skin. Our heroine, BB, is understandably different. Anybody would have trouble dealing with what she went through, let alone a 15-year-old. Most of the people she has ever cared about are gone. She is in a very low place when she meets Harley, a mechanic. He is a breath of fresh air for BB: a relaxed, fun, irresponsible car enthusiast (which is right up BB’s alley!) But Knight is still hanging around, and just because he isn't with BB, doesn't mean he wants anyone else to be with her, either.

YOU NEVER STOOD A FUCKING CHANCE, PUNK. YOU WERE ALWAYS GOING TO BE MINE. YOU JUST DIDN’T KNOW IT.

This story is filled with the same hilarious hijinks and heartfelt moments I have come to expect in this series. There is something about BB that really resonates with me, probably because I also was a teenager in the 90s (and early 00s). We were the latchkey kids, a group of under-supervised adolescents that thought we were adults simply because we were treated that way. The problem with that is that we weren't adults. Our brains weren't fully formed and we had hormones running through our system that made decision-making an absolute shitshow. So, even though BB makes horrible decisions and ignores some pretty serious red flags, it's impossible to blame her for that. Also, she shows a lot of empathy for teenager. You can tell she will be a really great adult... if she makes it that far!

I loved that motherfucker down to the core—in spite of his shitty disposition and possessive psychosis and violent tendencies.

This whole series portrays something I’ve recently discovered, and that’s that every person in your life serves a purpose, even if they aren’t there forever. In this book, Harley helps teach BB how to live- and be happy- in the moment. I never really liked him all that much, but I knew he would serve his purpose, just like every one of BB's boyfriends. Of course, Knight is my #1, and he probably always will be. Not because he’s her forever- I know he isn’t- but because he had the biggest impact on her life. He taught her what she deserves and helped mold her into the person she became. He was FAR from perfect, but he was necessary. I think a lot of us women have boys like Knight in our past, broken bad boys that we thought we could fix. We couldn't, which is an important lesson we must learn. But that doesn't mean every moment was bad, am I right? For example, Knight's letters. Swoon. Anyways, I digress: I really do recommend this series for anyone that doesn't hate YA and can handle teenagers behaving badly. It's hilarious and heartfelt, my favorite combination. I personally would suggest reading it in order, but I guess you don't technically have to.

“Oh, you’re alllll the fucking way in, Punk. You’re in my goddamn guts. You’ve seen my shit-stained soul. You’re the only fucking person who knows what I am inside, but it seems like you need a little reminder.”

Trigger warning for suicidal thoughts, drug use, violence, domestic violence, minors sleeping with adults, and PTSD. And probably more that I can’t remember.

Holy wow! Bow down to the brilliant BB Easton. Speed takes you for a wild and intense ride. I'm not sure how I can recover from. I love love love this book! I have so many feelings coursing through my body during and after reading this. Love, hate, lust, happiness and pain. Every emotion BB felt radiated off the pages and into my world.

I know this was Harley's book but Knight just came in and owned me. For a majority of the book, I was rooting so hard for Harley. Yeah, he's a little sketchy but he's a lovable sketch. But then Knight, my goodness, he just appears and speaks to my soul making me fall for him all over again.

Gah! This book is so good! I love that BB's writing and her perfectly timed wit is able to paint this picture of experiences and a life sooo incredibly different from my own and makes me feel like I've lived through it too. Sheer brilliance. I can not wait to read Hans story next!

BB never lets me down. This one took a turn that I did not expect, but still great nonetheless. This was an easy read with quite the wild ride inside!

Why? Why does anything to do with Knight wreck me???

This was the thought bouncing around in my head after I finished my 3rd BB Easton book.

I didn't read Speed as soon as it came out like I did with Skin. After reading 44 Chapters About 4 Men I had two favorites, other than BB. Knight and Ken. I didn't want to jump into Speed and the world of Harley, leaving Knight behind. I wasn't ready. I had no clue Knight's presence would be so prominent in Speed.

My feeling for Harley ran right in line with BB's. He was fun and happy, his smile made me swoon. I could see him- his gait, his hair, all of it. I love that kind of guy. The ones who make you laugh, but they can't keep my interest for long. I hate that I love the tortured soul more. BB and Harley, that was hot. BB and Knight, that ripped me open.

My favorite thing about BB's spin-off series is the sense of nostalgia I feel. BB and I grew up in the same era, at the same time. I found myself remembering the days of my teens when I had my first car, my first love, my first heartbreak.

I doubt I will ever read writing like BB's again. And I will read everything she puts out. This woman is honest and a storyteller like no other.

Glued to every word, so much pain, so many mistakes, so many words left unsaid and then said when it was too late and so much exploration... exploration of everything. rather, truly, quite steamy but I was focusing more on the human condition side of things and it, again, ripped my tiny heart into even tinier pieces. Bloody hell!
