It was entertaining, quippy, endearing. I really enjoyed the pacing. I have a potentially hot take about the main character though - ironically, was she too one-dimensional? Her moments of growth seemed to be in the final few pages, or perhaps I didn’t have a good read on it.

Cry count: 0.5. half of a well-up once.

When I first started this book, I wasn't sure if it would be my cup of tea. But turns out, it was great!

Elizabeth Zott is such a great character, with everything she's been through but still standing up for herself and not giving in. It was such a delight to see her speaking her mind, no matter what society expected to hear.

In the beginning it was dragging a bit, because what was described in the blurb only starts happening around 50% in. Looking back, everything in the beginning was important for the later story thought.
Still it was a bit of a drag.

I can really recommend this book.

The characters and events in the book felt totally unrealistic most of the time but it was a great read. It felt like reading a fairy tale. Also if the show existed, I would have totally watched it.

Really enjoyed reading the book and especially loved the different characters' point of view. The pacing felt a bit off. My main issue is how the heavy topics were handled, especially rape. The protagonist gets raped by a professor and it gets mentioned in really extreme detail with little to no mention of it after the page 20. It felt a bit weird to me.
But I did enjoy this book and it was a page turner for sure and it also made me cry. I do wish some topics were more explored and some topics weren't dragged on

I really enjoyed this one, it opened a window into life in the 1960's, particularly for a woman in science and made me realise how far we really have come since then! The main character Elizabeth Zot is most the time lovable, although at some points cam come across as snobby but overall you're on her side all the way through the book. This book highlights the sexism that was rife at the time, exploring how different women handled it either by rebelling, giving in or internalising it! It was a satisfying book in that all characters redeemed themselves / got what they deserved in my opinion!  I loved the dog 6.30, was a nice touch to have his thoughts included in the book. It's written well, going back and forth in time filling in the blanks and building the picture for you as you read, with it all coming together in a tidy knot at the end.
