I thought I had this all figured out by a third of the way through it and fancied myself the smartest person alive... only to turn out to be almost entirely wrong. I'm holding on to the tiny shred of dignity I have left because I was kind of in the ballpark. This author hasn't disappointed me yet, and while her books aren't necessarily rampant with realism, I enjoy the hell out of them and always look forward to starting a new one!

This suspenseful read had me hooked from start to finish. I enjoyed this a lot more than The Housemaid. I felt the writing was improved which kept me engaged throughout. I liked the alternating narratives and the pacing was excellent. The setting of the abandoned mansion during a winter storm had me rightfully scared and creeped out at times.

And like so many others, I had thought I figured out the twist early on but I was completely wrong!

If you're looking for a thrilling, unpredictable story that'll keep you guessing until the very end, this is it!

This was so fast to listen to on audiobook. This book, I think, would have been more successful as a third person, because there is a difference between an unreliable narrator and a liar. Fair warning, almost no one in this book is likable, but I think thatโ€™s the point. The writing was meh, the story wasnโ€™t terrible, but could have been better if it had been written a bit better. Itโ€™s like two different people wrote the beginning and the end and the person who wrote the end didnโ€™t read the beginning. Overall, I would say this was a fine 2.5-3 star.

The twists will give you whiplash until the last page. Also what is up with Trishaโ€™s mother? Sheโ€™s gotta have problems.

The internet persuaded me to read this one, and I did so in 5 hours. Starting with the dislike, the actual writing style isn't particularly great; it's very simple, which makes it quick to get through but the actual text not particularly vibrant. This seems to be a common theme with thrillers; I wish they'd take time to develop their prose a bit more. But I am particularly picky. In terms of plot, for the first half I was sceptical, and mainly kept reading because I found the book frustrating.
I think the unreliable narrator became far too obvious far too quickly due to the absurdity of the situation.
Additionally, all the characters grated. I don't mind unlikeable, but it did also increase my reading speed as I just didn't really want to be hearing about them any more. Luckily, the plot evolved nicely and made it a worthy read in the end. I guessed several of the twists and made connections for a few more, but as someone who usually sees them all coming, having a few I didn't was a nice change. One of the better thriller's I've read recently. Not perfect, but entertaining.
It was also rather hilarious trying to take the "two can keep a secret..." Line seriously each time whilst hearing the PLL theme tune!

Eerie and claustrophobic with a mystery more layered than an onion.
