I am still trying to decide what I want to say about this book while I am writing the review.

I have wanted to read this book since I posted the blitz about it on my blog.

We have Levi, who is back from war with his other 3 friends. They have lost the fifth member of their group, who also was Harper’s brother.

Harper is on a mission to find out what actually happened when her brother died. Levi knows the answer to that but doesn’t want her to know.

And so it goes.

I loved Levi as the protective alpha male, trying to protect Harper from whoever is out to get her.

I wasn’t a big fan of Harper. She is a small woman, yes, we know that. But wow. Harper feels like she has to be over aggressive to prove that she can handle herself and it drove me a bit nuts. We know, you are tough. You got this. No need to be quite so angry when someone does something for you.

Things I wished –

That Levi would have told Harper about how her brother died. There could have been a confrontation and then a moment there.

That when it came to who was trying to kill Harper that it would have been expanded. It went by too quickly. They were there and gone. I wish there would have been more to the background of that story.

Overall it was a good book, I just wished there was more to the stories. It was the difference between truly caring about the characters and feeling kind of meh about them.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of Duty Bound.

Wow, so this really wasn't great.
The romance was meh at best
and the "mystery plot" if you want to call it that was ridiculous.
The culprit had literally no motive and it came completely out of the blue, there was virtually no set-up whatsoever.

I would say like a 3.5. I read it in one day. I really didn't feel the chemistry between Harper and Levi was all that great. Also the reason that Levi was trying to protect Harper was kind of lame but I will probably read the next one.

This was a very quick read and I enjoyed it for the most part. Things moved VERY quickly and I found myself wishing for a little more story development. I'm still not sure what happened to Gavin and why Harper thought there was more to the story than just a simple accident.

*I received an ARC from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Levi and Harper's brother, Gavin were best friends growing up. They joined the service together. Gavin didn't make it home.

Levi has fought his attraction for Harper for several years. Harper holds a grudge every since Levi chose to live by the 'Bro-code' instead of admitting his attraction to her.

Harper is small but mighty. She's digging into her brother's death and the more she digs the more it seems someone is out to harm her. Levi steps in to protect her as he knows that is what Gavin would want him to do.

These two sizzle together. Their characters seem to gel really well. I love the intrigue and the build up of attraction between Levi and Harper.

Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams do an amazing collaborating job. This book is very well written.

I discovered Samantha Chase years back through a random giveaway, and ever since I've been eyeing her books and hoping to be able to jump back into them. Lucky me found one free on iBooks and I was jumping for joy! What a day!! I had the chance to sit down and read this while I was waiting about one day AND I AM SO HAPPY. This writer and her co-writer are FABULOUS.

Anywho, onto the real content. You get the point that I love chasing down books by authors I've loved before. It's kind of obvious at that point! Loyalty to my fave authors and series is a must. Good content = great reading!

I will say, the characters in this book weren't super likeable to me. Harper and I are not on the same page, but I did like reading all about her story. It's basically a guilty pleasure read for me. I didn't agree with a large majority of the decisions or sometimes creepy vibe, yet I still needed to finish this book. I was so enchanted and sunk into the book without a doubt. It was hard to break away from my little binge read. So here we are... Me enjoying a book that really doesn't vibe with me...

Harper's brother died, and now she realizes she may be falling for his best friend. Typical trope - army brother, long lost friend, protect the girl, romantic pasts questioned - the good stuff. It's the HEA type romance I needed, even if it felt cheesy and done before. But that's what I wanted, so that's what I got! There's definitely sad parts - Gavin dying and the grief after that is heartbreaking. Everyone has dealt with some loss, and you can feel that the authors have dealt with that through their spectacular writing.

Levi and Harper's relationship feels real enough. I did think it felt kind of stalker-ish off the bat, but that's just how the writing made it feel for that first chapter. The ages didn't seem to match up, but eventually you figure out the age difference isn't that big (it's just the poor wording). Protective man + Best Friend's Sister = trope of the year for me apparently.

Overall, it was a fun little read! It packs the romance, gets a bit R rated and will meet the needs of those trope lovers.

Three out of five stars!

Frankly, from the start I found Harper to be an incredibly immature and selfish person. There was absolutely no reasoning as to why she had such an inferiority complex - yes, that is exactly how it came across to me. I never warmed to her as a character. I quite liked Levi. This just felt slow and rushed at the same time.

It is the first of a series, but as the first didn't draw be in I won't be continuing... which is a shame as I actually found Levi's path to how his future was going to unfold interesting. Ah well.

We've all had that one person in our lives at some point. The person who annoys us to no end, but yet we're attracted to them. That's the relationship between Harper and Levi.

After Levi's deployment with Harpers brother ends, he sees Harper again for the guest time in a long time. The attraction is instantaneous for both, but Harper fights it in the typical "I am woman, hear me roar" fashion.

What happens next is explosive for them both.

Great read. I can't wait to read the rest in the series.
