I do hope this isn’t the last book in this series. Not that it was a great series but there was almost zero resolution. We didn’t even get an epic battle with the rebels, just implied they were losing. We didn’t get to see how the Vanguard will be changed after this “war”, how some of the “new” experiments were recreated, etc. We were left with more questions than answers. The HEA was solid. I first tried to read this as a stand-alone and couldn’t finish. After reading the prior 8 books and diving into this one, I’m glad I gave it another chance. Nevrik is never mentioned before this book but he quickly became one of my favorites. His boldness, cockiness, sarcasm and just whole attitude was everything I had hoped Varnog would be. His threats sent shivers down my spine. Varnog should’ve been written more like this. I want more psychopath from my scelks. Tyonna didn’t really differ from the other females. She was a hard ass, fierce, etc. As a black female she was a Portal but we didn’t see a whole lot of that from her. This book was more telling than showing. It was quickly put together despite how much Nevrik dominated the pages. If this is the conclusion, I can make my peace with it despite this book probably needing at least another 100-200 pages to wrap things up.

I adore this series!

Ok so to be 100% honest Varnog is still my fave Scelk but man Nevrik is a super close 2nd. He was just so adorable! This whole series is amazing and worth checking out if you haven't.

Nevrik, the male Scelk (humanoid/bug hybrid) lead, has been in love with Tyonna, the female human lead, since he met her but he had a boy’s form and she was understandably not interested. Now that he’s matured, he’s ready to pursue their relationship. He’s just a bit terrified she’ll reject him again.

Tyonna hasn’t been thinking of him- he WAS just a boy before…but now he’s definitely all adult male and sexy and sarcastic, and just her speed, actually…

But they are in the middle of trying to prevent a war…

This story is dual POV, well written, and all kinds of awesome! I adored both Tyonna and Nevrik’s personalities and character development and greatly enjoyed the relationship development. The intimate scenes were gorgeous and erotic and intense and beautiful! This story was all around yes please! And I appreciate that the author has stated this is the second last in the series because I LOVE a good series closer and can’t wait for the next one because this was so good! Whilst the romance in this story stands alone, this will be best enjoyed within the series because so much of the overarching plot continues from where the previous story finished.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
