I really loved this. One of the most unique books I've ever read. Some really interesting themes - what a person raised in a sterile, empty world would be like, what it means to be human, what drives us. And the writing was beautiful.

I also found it really interesting that the author was Jewish and fled Europe during WWII. Lots of interesting parallels with Nazi Germany (e.g. the bus with dead passengers and the narrator's theory that the guards had no idea what was going on either). I know the world isn't supposed to make sense but my little theory was this was a brutal war gone wrong.
