Wow, that was way better than I expected. Since this is the most popular Sherlock Holmes book and the most popular mystery book of all time, I expected to be let down. But I wasn't! The buildup of the atmosphere was amazing, especially! The mystery, combined with uncertainty and fear made this book so compelling.

Reread this for English class, and wow! Reading it again makes me appreciate the details more! Such as Holmes and Watson's old-married-couple moments, the atmosphere, Doyle's powerful prose, Mrs Barrymore and Selden, the Mortimer puns, and so much more!

Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite fictional characters, so I've read this book before. I decided to listen to it as an audiobook this time -- hearing this story is a fantastic experience. Doyle has a superb command of pacing, consistently producing that ever-fun sensation of clarity bursting through a thick fog at the end.

This was my first Sherlock Holmes I've read. I highly enjoyed it. These detective stories give me a real Autumn feeling and gets me all cozy.

The story was great. I've read that some people already knew who the killer was, but I didn't. I was still surprised at the end when the case was solves and reviewed. It was a lot of fun to read in the kind of language style of that time, and to still feel like it fits in the modern world.

The only problem I had was that I sometimes didn't know who was who again, because I felt like I didn't get a big enough introduction about the characters. That made the story sometimes a little hard to understand for me.

Definitely enjoyed a more protracted story, with plenty of nice twists.
