Omg the main character is annoying. I can imagine her stomping her feet like a toddler demanding she be included. Girllllllll. And the CIA just being like *shrug* this is fine...???

This was such a fun and fast-paced read. Dove likes her quiet little life, which is the opposite of how her sister, Madison, lives her life. Until Dove is mistaken for Madison and thrown into a world of spies and espionage that is nothing like the movies. Not to mention a hot, sexy CIA operative. I loved the relationship with Dove and Madison and the chemistry between Dove and Mendez. There were also some fun one-liners and laugh out loud moments. As intense and action-packed as this book was, it was still a fun romcom.

If The Spy and I by Tiana Smith isn’t on your radar yet, let me fix that. This fast-paced romantic suspense is like being strapped to a rocket filled with spy shenanigans, global jet-setting, and a swoon-worthy love story. It’s fun, thrilling, and just the right amount of over-the-top to keep you hooked until the very last page.

The story kicks off when Dove, an unassuming hacker, gets mistaken for her twin sister—who, plot twist, is an actual spy. Dove’s relatable, down-to-earth personality shines as she fumbles through high-stakes situations with wit and bravery. Mendez, on the other hand, is all special ops cool and secretive charm, making for a compelling romantic dynamic. The two find themselves dodging bullets, uncovering traitors, and navigating the gorgeous streets of Prague while sparks fly faster than their witty comebacks. While the romance develops quickly, their undeniable chemistry keeps the story fun and engaging.

The action never lets up, with twists and surprises that make this book a true page-turner. Though the middle slows down a bit, the high-octane finale more than makes up for it. With its mix of humor, intrigue, and heart-pounding romance, this book delivers a New Adult experience that leans into its tropes in the best way.

The Spy and I is a must-read escapist adventure if you love spy thrillers, romantic suspense, and fast-paced fun.

I picked up this book on a whim, feeling the mood for a spy romance. It was all right overall. I did feel there were certain moments of inconsistency, and also some rather rushed, confusing plot points, but I guess that's because my brain is more hardwired and exposed to the spy side of genres rather than romance, which isn't something I normally read, if at all.

I think I would've preferred a third person point of view. I would've loved to read Mendez' side of things as well, but again, that's just more preference. This book, which has a clear focus on the romantic aspect and the title itself immediately highlights the first POV, it works well enough.

So yeah. Might not be the best, might not be my favorite, but it's nice to broaden my horizons once and a while.

This was a fun listen
