Its been a minute since I read the previous book, and I didn't think the Sanderlanche could be anymore intense than that ending. I was wrong!! The stakes have been raised higher, the characters I love experienced more beauty and pain, and growth

And used a lot of really cool magical powers and big magical swords.
I continue to be in awe of Sanderson's ability to make believable characters and worlds.

This was probably my least favorite of the Stormlight Archives books so far. That said, a lot of that has to do with my preference not being in reading battle scenes and there is a lot of that here. There are definitely compelling and interesting story lines that for me kind of carried it.

and lets be real I wasn't a super fan of most of the male primary character's motivation being the result of his late wife's pain- there is more to it than that, admittedly, it just felt like the bulk of it was the result of Evi's death.

This series continues to feel more epic with every instalment. I really enjoy the descriptions of the various surges, particularly the flying battles with
Kaladin/Szeth
. The characters are some of my favourites I’ve read, including their well developed flaws.

While I had started to suspect, the reveal that the humans are the Voidbringers was very impactful, as was Odium’s growing role as a looming figure of destruction.
While the start of the book is a bit slow to reach the parts that feel important to the story, the later parts drive forwards in a way that’s hard to put down.

"You're not monsters. You're not soldiers. You're not even the seeds of the void. You're just...runaway slaves."

"I used to take the terrible things that had happened to me as proof that there was no god. Then in some of my darkest moments, I took my life as proof there must be something up there, for only intentional cruelty could offer an explanation."

He accepted what he had done. It would always be part of him. And though he was determined to resist, he would not cast aside what he had learned. That very thirst for the struggle--the fight, the victory--
had also prepared him to refuse Odium.

"Thank you," he whispered again to the Thrill, "for giving me strength when I needed it."

"Ten spears go to battle and nine shatter. Did that war forge the one that remained? No. All the war did was identify the spear that would not break."

This book had SO MUCH. I LOVED how it had some POVs from the singers/listeners. I LOVED being in their heads and learning about their lives, especially the ones who had just awoken after the coming of the everstorm. I hope we get more povs from them in later books.

But this book was so slow. I usually enjoy slow books. Like, I enjoyed ALL the books of the Dandelion Dynasty! But this one was often painfully slow. And I'm sure I missed way more details than I should have. It took me longer to read this than any other book since I started reading all the time.

Nevertheless, the ending was amazing and made it worth reading! Dalinar's backstory and redemption arc was magnificent! This book would've been a 3.5 if not for the ending.

Another excellent story, I do wish it was a tad shorter, like maybe 200 pages less, otherwise, very keen to see how the rest of this story unfolds.
