So, far of the three books that I've read The Way of Kings is still my favorite book and Kaladin is my favorite character. I did enjoy this one more than Words of Radiance because I liked that we got more of the story revealed to us and we got to see more of Shallan and her training to be a radient and Jashna's ward.
I cried when Elokar was lost and his wife was no longer the woman he married and loved. I also cried when he died protecting his son.

I was surprised to find this book as heavy a read as it was. Books 1 and 2 did not shy away from emotional content but this really brought things to the next level.

I appreciate how willing Brandon Sanderson is to let his characters be so flawed. He is masterful at creating a human nuance that makes me feel as though he’s lived a thousand lifetimes! How do you make a pseudo-monarch sympathetic? And how do you allow readers to question whether sympathy is deserved?

However it’s done, he has seemingly done so in this book! The first half felt slow compared to other books, and while that isn’t bad, i was surprised that I had to kick myself a bit to keep from slowing down too much. In the end, it was very worth it!

This book is a bop and a half, and while it took me nearly 2 months to finish it was worth every second. So many new questions, so many new characters, and Lift! Gotta love Tight Butt, too. 4.5 stars

This series continues to feel more epic with every instalment. I really enjoy the descriptions of the various surges, particularly the flying battles with
Kaladin/Szeth
. The characters are some of my favourites I’ve read, including their well developed flaws.

While I had started to suspect, the reveal that the humans are the Voidbringers was very impactful, as was Odium’s growing role as a looming figure of destruction.
While the start of the book is a bit slow to reach the parts that feel important to the story, the later parts drive forwards in a way that’s hard to put down.
