The story and characters were interesting, but the story went a bit to slowly for my 11 year old, likely due to all the descriptive language for the scenes. I enjoyed it, but he got bored.
I loved this book. Quirky characters trapped at an inn at Christmas time..perfect. Excellent mystery with a dash of “history” . Highly recommend.
This is a book that has stayed with me after finishing it and I've struggled to come up with a rating. At first I felt kind of blah about it, it was good, but was it great? That being said, I've continued to think about it. Something that really stood out to me was the idea of alternative personalities and how that would be particularly difficult for some of my kiddos to understand. I could see my kiddos trying to figure out who these new characters were and where did they come from. On the flip side, I really enjoyed the mystery that was part of the story and the sneaky reveal at the end.
I loved this book so much! Ideally read in the winter or any other equally cozy time. It truly immersed me into those snowstorm feelings. Exceptionally written YA, don't let that tag put you off (although it shouldn't anyway). The atmosphere of Greenglass House reminded me of the wondrously large spooky and mysterious house I grew up in, while the mystery put me slightly in mind of The Mysterious Benedict Society. A healthy helping of the novel 's own TTRPG, Odd Trails, and it has convinced me that things can sound even cooler and more niche than D&D. Give it a go if you want a big warm hug of a book.
Oh I also think it handles the whole issue of adoption/family pretty darn well, although I am speaking as a non-adopted person here.

My mom sent this book to me and my son, Liam, for a shared read. When I saw it, I have to admit, I thought the cover was beautiful. I love beautiful book covers and I found myself looking at it over and over and every time I looked at it, I saw something new. I only write this because when I finished the book, I closed it and looked at the cover again. I saw Milo and Meddy for the first time and it made me smile. There is the magic I was hoping for. 😉
The synopsis was interesting. A big, beautiful inn, Christmas vacation, plenty of snowy blizzards, isolation, smugglers, folk tales, and lots of unexpected guests popping up. All the makings of a great Agatha Christie-type mystery. Alas, once again, a book not for me. And again, maybe I was not the intended reader. It took me AGES to slog through this one. I almost gave it up a few times but I carried on. I wasn't at all interested in the role playing or the secondary characters. The twist at the end was a good one and I really didn't see it coming (if I had been at all invested in the story, I would have) but by that time, the magic just wasn't there for me. I do hope Liam likes it and perhaps I will add his comments to mine as a younger perspective.
P.S. What's with all the hot chocolate? I know it's Christmas and there's lots of snow but it seems that Milo spent his whole days drinking hot chocolate.

This enchanting winter read is the perfect companion for curling up by a warm fire. The story revolves around Milo, a thoughtful young boy whose family operates The Greenglass House, a charming inn that comes to life just days before Christmas. As the season's festivities draw near, an unexpected influx of guests arrive. Separately but possessing an intriguing connection to each other that remains shrouded in mystery.
Alongside his friend Meddy, Milo embarks on a captivating quest to unravel the secrets of the guests, piecing together what they are hiding and uncovering how their lives intertwine within the walls of The Greenglass House. The atmosphere is infused with a sense of wonder and suspense, making every twist and turn of the plot deliciously engaging.
I absolutely adored this book! I experienced it as both an ebook and an audiobook, and now I am eager to add a physical copy to my collection. If you’re looking for a spellbinding adventure set against a backdrop of cold yet cozy winter vibes, this delightful book is a must-read!
