I was a little wary to read this book given that I had some students describe it as "weird." And saying they didn't like it. I, however, loved it. I loved all the mysteries, the solving of the clues, the growing confidence of Milo, the guests at the INN and the secrets they hide. Brilliant novel.

DID NOT FINISH

Dear Greenglass House,

I am so very sorry, but it's just not working. I thought we were made for each other- smugglers, a creaky old stained-glass inn, winter vacation, mysterious thefts- it looked like everything I could want in a cozy little book. But as I read more and more, I just couldn't get into you. It seemed to be just kids dressing up and spying on guests, and while that's all well and good, I was looking for a more... mature relationship. I wanted a plot twist, or a hidden truth finally uncovered, something to move the story along from the wandering, meandering, overly leisurely pace it was taking. And I hate to say this, but- I just didn't care. Maybe it was the humid summer air, or the other books sending me seductive, beckoning glances from my to-read shelf, but by the hundredth page, I knew it was too late for us, Greenglass House.

I hope that someday I'll be able to try again. But for right now, I think we're better off apart. Another time, another place, another lifetime- maybe we'll be together then.

All my love,
Mia

So much fun. Surprises and twists! Adventure and intrigue! Friendships and strong family relationships! Fascinating lore and an interesting world. I enjoyed this immensely.

Not a bad book. I'm not usually into mystery novels but then the supernatural elements started to hit and then I started enjoying the book a bit more. I liked Milo as a narrator and Meddy is cute too. I don't have too much to say about this book but it was a cozy enough read for a cold winter night.

I’ve been looking forward to this book since seeing it recommended often as a perfect winter read, many people giving it a reread every Christmas. Got myself a big mug of hot cocoa and dug in to this quirky, snowbound world of pirates and found families and treasure hunts and mysteries…

…and was just bored for so much of it. The world building is cozy, the writing fine, there’s even one of my favorite kinds of twists thrown in. But I just found myself always putting it down easily, and never really inspired to pick it back up. I think maybe the plot is a bit too loose for me, and there’s too many half-baked side characters.  Probably better for a younger audience. Early Harry Potter books vibes.

One of the best youth fiction novels I've read in recent years. Intriguing cast of characters, a unique setting, and potential for many more stories of interest based on Milo, his parents and their house.

I struggled with this book. I did not find the mystery captivating and the stories within the story distracted me from the main plot.
