This is a delightful book about a mystery in an old house. There are strangers with mysterious quests, smugglers and a loving family. On top of it all add interracial adoption and a nod towards neurodiversity. Really well done book.

So fun! I'm rediscovering my love of middle-grade mystery, and this was a real standout. It covered a lot of ground, and there were some points where I saw the direction the story was going, but there were also a few parts where I had no idea what was going to happen. Our protagonist is interesting and complex, and his different emotions--frustration, guilt, joy--are shown to us rather than told to us, for the most part. The strangers visiting the inn are all interesting, and while some storylines don't end as well as I would have liked, for the most part this was a really great book.

This was an absolute treasure! The wintry setting, charming characters and wonderful stories within THE story made for a such an enjoyable read. I especially appreciated Milo's thoughts and feelings on not knowing his birth parents and gradual discovery of how clever and brave he actually is. He also had a very close relationship with his parents, which I don't often find in middle grade books (seriously, parents are either absent, negligent or just can't connect with their children). And, do not even get me started on Meddy and her tearjerker back story.

My only gripe about this is the love triangle. Ugh, it was a real bummer especially since by the end of the book Georgie was still a bit sad. I liked her waaay a lot more than Clem. She was more engaging and warm towards Milo. Like, Kate Milford, weren't you already writing about a lot of rejection issues through Milo and Meddy? Why include another rejection?! Really think that love triangle was sooo unnecessary. (Mini-rant over.)

Seriously, this book was filled with so many unique elements -- mystery, folklore, symbolism and good use of things and artifacts. Plus a lot of fun new words! Really well done. Absolutely would highly recommend this!

I wish Greenglass House was a real place!

What was this plot. Sad bc I had super high hopes when judging the cover of this book. 1.5⭐️

I so badly want to love this book but unfortunately, there were many chapters of this book that could’ve been left out to simplify the plot. Although there were lots of random characters, this book would be a nice novel study to teach character development/character traits.

I can see some of my students enjoying this book, but I felt that the plot got extremely sidetracked. I had super high expectations and they fell short /:
