mysterious medium-paced

I have big love for this one. So tightly crafted yet filled with beautiful bits. This would make the best movie.

I really enjoyed this middle grade novel. Its main character is thoughtfully layered, the writing quality is very good, and the ending was satisfying without being too tidy.

What a fun book with clues to figure out and surprises along the way.

The cozy vibes in this book were oh so right! Highly recommend reading during Christmas time with snow falling outside and a nice mug of hot cocoa. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the cast of characters who were frustrating, loveable, hilarious, clever, and all around delightful to read about.

Started reading this allowed to the kids who freaked out even though nothing scary was happening. I was intrigued enough to finish it myself. It’s one I’d be happy to read again to them.

I read this because of the cover (yes, I am often shallow like that about books), and I was not disappointed. Kate Milford does a wonderful job of evoking the warmth and magic of Christmas, and wrapping it up in a perfect package with YA mystery, detective work, and adventure (among other things). Full of colorful (if perhaps a bit basic) characters, this book is sweet and fun.
