A slow, atmospheric book. It had a wonderful sense of place - the Alaskan wilderness. A perfect winter read. ❄️

I didn’t know that this was going to be a retelling of the Russian folk tale of “Snegurochka” or The Snow Maiden - so that was a fun surprise!

Reading The Snow Child feels like putting on a warm, familiar, old coat to me. The writing style is full of imagery that feels true and beautiful and not contrived, which one doesn’t come across too often these days. The characters have depth of emotion and history which makes any mundane happening in their lives ripe with meaning and significance. I enjoyed the journey with Mabel and Jack—discovering who their snow child was, and I only wish their discovery was a little different in the end.
