I wanted to love this book.

The world building and concept of the Gods was fascinating.

But the characters were so annoying, I found it hard to enjoy the story. A lot of the time, I found myself asking "Where is this headed? Or, Where did THAT come from?". The ending was not nearly as suspenseful as I had hoped. It was over very quickly.

The story wasn't what I expected but it was nevertheless really good. Hardinge's style of writing is just delightful to read and her stories really enchant you and pull you in. I wish there was a bit more about the islands and the other gods, but all in all this is a book I will definitely read again.

Sympa, j'ai trouvé l'univers et les déités très intéressantes, j'aurais aimé qu'on ai plus de contenu dessus. Autrement, j'ai trouvé ce livre un peu trop long/étiré (ce qui m'a posé pb sur la fin du bouquin), ca méritait d'être plus condensé et rythmé, et c'aurait été super!

Everything about this book took me by surprise, and I absolutely loved it. Truly, this is one of the best books I have read this year. Everything from the characters to the action were meticulously crafted. A powerful story about finding ones-self and enduring change.

The world is unlike anything I've ever encountered before. The legacy of the gods and the truth of them had my jaw dropping whenever a twist was revealed. Every character was complex, and no one was perfect. There were morally grey actions everywhere that led to unforgettable moments. The lore and stories, whether they were legends or backstories, completely enthralled me. All of this combined with truly stunning writing.

I'm going to keep this one short, because everyone needs to read it. Everything you could ever want in a book is here. Highly recommended. Truly, do not let this one pass you by. It is an absolute treasure and I will be thinking on it for a long, long time.
