Not as good as its prequel, but excellent nonetheless. I must read more of Potok's work. :))

I am so happy to be in this world with these characters again. This book, like The Chosen, is about fathers and sons and friendship, and it's a remarkable look into a community I don't know much about otherwise. It was so interesting to dive into the tensions between Hasid, Orthodox, and other Jews, and here the influx of refugees after World War II add layers to that tension I would not have expected. The writing is beautiful. There is some experimental psychology that might be triggering for some readers.

This started out a little slow for me, but I loved it by the end. It didn't blow me away like The Chosen did, but it is still an excellent book. Potok is making his way up my favorite authors list.

A sequel, that on the second read, surpasses the Chosen for me.

Once again I am surprised how much I enjoyed a book from this writer. I am sad because the stack of books still to read are getting less and less. Wondered why there never was another book in this series? Great story telling.
