Good tie up to the three book story arc

This book did a nice job tying up the storyline and more firmly developing the last two main characters, Drew and Bas. There’s a lot of emotion in this one. I think I had that “almost crying” sore throat from about 20% on! Good ending though improbable and you can see the crisis point coming a mile away. I think the tight story got a little loose there. Expediency? Not sure. But overall an enjoyable book and an enjoyable series.

In many ways, the third book of a trilogy has a leg up on the previous books, because these are established characters. It can be plot-plot-plot, unless something major changes. Well. Something major did change, and it felt real. Without that, this story would've failed, but it was excellent. Delicately foreshadowed in the previous books, too. Extremely satisfying, and snarky. :)

I was mad for a few minutes during the end, when it seemed a critical possibility had been overlooked. It hadn't - but it did lead to the final resolution during which I knew one thing but feared for everyone and yay but yikes! Also: good job, May Archer, taking months off my life like that!

From a craft standpoint, this one's better than #2. The show-and-then-tell-anyway thing Archer did in The Long Way, often enough that I deducted a star for it, was not in this one! w00t!
