Accessible, poignant, sometimes painfully truthful. I dog-eared five poems to go back to again and again. Tributes to his identity as a New Orleans native throughout. #readlivingpoets

Reading this collection made my face hurt.

I had to hold back tears continuously so I did not miss a word. Beautiful and tragic and elegiac (but one day, no more)

I will be reading again tomorrow.

Solid 3.5. Will likely go up if I re-read, study the poems/do research, or listen to the author’s audio version —- this is because for me I usually need something ‘extra’ to fully engage with poetry. The content & emotions evoked were strong. Beautiful & powerful words & phrases conveyed. But, simply put, for me reading poetry is not always my fave.

Wow that was beautiful. I want to read this book over and over again. His poems were so real- I never felt so many different emotions and pictured things so clearly from reading. Love him and his brilliant mind- he challenged me through reflection and thought. These poems definitely make you think.
