So many emotions stirred up whilst reading. From rage at reading the way women were (and still are) treated during war and violence to sadness over the last few chapters. The History of Man is a song that replayed over and over in my head whilst reading it. So many amazing quotes throughout too, Madeline sure knows how to word things perfectly.

And perhaps it is the greatest grief, after all, to be left on earth, when another is gone

I could recognise him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.

He is a weapon, a killer. Do not forget it. You can use a spear as a walking stick, but that will not change its nature.

He is half my soul, as the poets say.

It is right to seek peace for the dead. You and I both know there is no peace for those who live after.

But fame is a strange thing. Some men gain glory after they die, while others fade. What is admired in one generation is abhorred in another.

I was so excited to read this book after hearing such rave reviews and that tissues are required for this one. Definitely well-written and such an interesting dive into these mythological greek characters, but the world building felt inconsistent with the way the gods play a role in the story and once the battle of troy began the number of "time jumps" really takes you out of the story waiting for the "big thing" to happen. I did really enjoy the first half of the book and I was sold on the characters and really interested in their story, but it was difficult to watch the characters change and see the fates play out. Still pondering the story and my review, but I'm glad to have read it!
