Amazing writing - vivid and evocative.

Love the realistic portrayal of how women are perceived in this world. I love that Patroclus grows in his opinions on women and people too. Contrasted with Achilles and his views because he can only be focused on himself.

I think maybe a bit of pacing inconsistencies at the start of the war… partly felt rushed and partly felt weeded out a bit.

More character distinction would’ve been good, but I’m being really picky now.

The last chapter is amazing. Many tears fell. Amazing book and fleshed out story of a classic myth.

I feel the 1984 pull to the book now. Beautiful and I loved it. I cried a lot in my final sitting of the read.

This book was an interesting take on some Greek mythology. I read it because of a blind recommendation and I will say it is not family friendly, it not only has quite a bit of in depth death and injury descriptions but also some sex scenes. Over all the battles and challenges along with the characters were interesting and the sex scenes were not too forced, detailed or cringey so overall I still found it pretty tasteful and enjoyable. But it is definitely not any story of Achilles one may be expecting.

I've always been invested in Greek myths so I really enjoyed this book and especially the take it has on the classics. You get an insight to queer love in the Greek myth realm so it's adventurous and really emotional for me at times. I connected to the main characters very well. I love the pacing and the writing style too, it captured my attention flawlessly as someone who has a hard time paying attention. I really recommend this if you're looking to hit a lot of boxes with this book it has everything I believe that makes it so intriguing.

this book was a bit boring throughout, but i have been crying for an hour now after reading the ending. it was so perfectly done with the switching tense and him telling thetis the story, his memories. i havent cried like this over a book in years. both patroclus and achilles (especially achilles) are flawed, but achilles is painted so beautifully through patroclus love. the small details also brings it out, like the nickname skops and then achilles being described as an owl as well as briseis calling patroclus greatest of myrmidos

I think it takes a lot for a book to make me cry, and I thought that this wouldn’t… and of course I start balling in the last 10 pages. This was just beautifully written and scratched the itch of wanting a good Iliad interpretation (looking at you Troy). Never thought I would actually cry over characters from the Iliad and yet here I am. Just… ugh. I can see how this wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love detailed books, deep emotions, and mythological retellings.
