Read more graphic novel reviews at www.graphiclibrary.org. High school student Chika thinks there might be something wrong with her. She doesn't feel romantic attraction like everyone else does, but when a boy asks her out, she decides to try it after everyone says this is how she'll fall in love. A terrifying rush into intimacy leaves Chika feeling like there's definitely something wrong, but she moves to Tokyo to attend college and study Psychology under a professor who writes about gender identity and sexual attractions. In her first semester, Chika rents a room from that same professor, meets other psychology students, and does a lot of self-discovery that leads her to believe she may be asexual. There are some poignant moments about what exactly is “normal” and how difficult pursuing that shifting goalpost can be at the best of times. There is so much pressure on young people to couple up and become romantically entangled at such a young age that the messages in this book, not only about asexuality, but about the healthy pursuit of romance and having productive conversations with your partner, are powerful and make this a welcome addition for high school collections. There is a moment of sexual assault on the page, so the added author's note about consent is a welcome addition to this volume. Sara's Rating: 8/10 Suitability Level: Grades 10-12

I really liked the exploration of the aroace identity, especially how there were many characters who were ace but all had different experiences, etc. I really didn't like the main character's personality a lot of the time, though, and generally thought several of her actions were odd.
This is such a wonderfully sweet manga. I'm so glad stories like these are getting published so they can make it into needed hands.

"Is Love the Answer" is a manga about a girl named Chika who is figuring out herself and her sexual identity. I enjoyed reading this book because it really shows people’s perspectives on different sexual identities and such. I love that it shows that if you’re surrounded by the right people, you will learn how to accept yourself and fully understand and get to know yourself. I also appreciate how this book explains very well what asexuality really is since it is not really talked about a lot. Thank you, NetGalley, for this copy. If you’re interested in reading a lighthearted manga about a high school/college girl who is trying to understand and discover more about herself, you should definitely read this. I’ll give this book 4 stars.
