Decent story. I think it has potential. I definitely wanted to continue to the end, despite some irritations with the book. The worst thing about the book is the title. Its silly, a rip-off of The Hunger Games, and pandering to the current political climate.
I expected a lot more exploration into the relationships between genders and sexualities in the two nations, but everything was very two dimensional. We are only given brief glimpses of relationships, and the romance between Violet and Viggo felt forced and cliche. Violet is also a typical Mary Sue. She excels at everything, is beautiful, and has no major flaws other than getting a little too angry and worked up over injustice. I hope her and Viggo's characters are fleshed out better in future books.
The exposition at the end was a bit laughable and struck me as implausible, but at least the method of it left open some plot possibilities in the future, so I'll give it a pass for now, with the hope it'll make more sense in the next book.
All of that said, I was left wanting more. The plot was gripping, and the world has potential. I look forward to seeing what is beyond the green, and how Violet will help shape the future. I will be reading the next book.

This book started out great, set in a jail like detention for our main character who had tried to rescue her brother.
Then it became slow for a little bit. I didn't like lee at all, and I was getting annoyed at the giant holes that seemed to be a convenient way to move the story along. (E.g. we need you to get this egg for us, it's extremely important but we can't tell you what it is or what it's for) and it seemed like last writing.
Then the book picked up again. There was a love interest that made sense, and it seemed to be slowly heading towards a love triangle, which thank goodness didn't. We got to see more of the world Bella built, the laws and culture for both sides of the river.
At the end, I realised the secrecy wasn't lazy writing at all, as things are revealed that, if revealed earlier would have changed the direction of the story. It would have gone where it wasn't supposed to go.
Although this story had a little slow moment, it was good, and will deffinetly be picking up the next book. Bella Forrest has made an interesting world and I'd like to see how her characters can build a better place or destroy the one they're in. Definitely worth the read.

It took me about 50 pages to really become absorbed in the storyline but once I did I couldn't stop reading. It is truly a dystopian tale, one told after the earth has been devistated. Two nationa arise from the ashes, one ruled by men and one ruled by women. Neither society is ideal and both are flawed. The main character, Violet, is easy to like. She is a strong willed female who belongs in neither world. She falls for a man, Viggo, who truly belongs in neither world. Violet is part of a plot created by the rulers of the female run society, Matrian, to retrieve stole goods from Patrian, the male society. I will continue to read the series as I am interested to see how the story will develop.
On a side note, the reason I was interested in the book was because ads on Facebook kept popping up saying, "if you are a fan of the Hunger Games and Divergent....". Other than the dystopia theme I wouldn't say this book is at all similar to those stories, at least not yet. So, if you are a fan of those two series I can't promise you will love this series

Thought is was going to be lame because of the title. I liked it a lot.
This isn't a bad novel but it's no Hunger Games or Divergent. It's distinctly thinner with less developed characters and less experienced world building. It doesn't have the build up or the tense atmosphere than both of those series brought to the fore so masterfully either.
The premise of two gender based lands, a patriarchal society and a matriarchal society is clever, however it isn't fully developed or used to full advantage. The actual plot line seems thin and is distinctly uninspiring which is a pity as the world and the main character hold significant promise.
It’s a pity because the actual ideas behind the different lands could have been followed up far more interestingly and the premise of putting a woman born and raised in a matriarchal society straight into a patriarchy with no power or control is definitely intriguing. The way this section of the plot is written though is disappointing in the extreme.
All in all, not a bad effort but not spectacular either.

What a cool read! The world is decided by gender. Patrus for the men and Matrus for the women. Violet was deemed too violent and a risk for Matrus. Unless she marries and becomes literal property, she’s unable go to Patrus. After a traumatic experience, she was to die or accept the mission proposed to her as restitution to her country.
Violet will see a life like never before. And make a choice that will change her life forever.
I was so excited while reading this. It’s a quick read, with a rapidly progressing storyline. There’s just a dash of romance to quicken your pulse. I can’t wait to dive into book two of this *completed!* seven book series.

Could have used some more romance and beverages other than water (why do they only drink water???), but found it to be a fast paced adventure and I'm curious to see where this series goes.
