A fascinating read, written in a very accessible manner. Only issue is it focussed incredibly heavily on england and ignores the rest of the Uk, an odd choice when you consider how Sanghera himself comments on the lack of commentary on Scottish or Welsh acknowledgement of their involvement.

A must read for anyone interested in the legacy of the British Empire or modern-day Britain, Sanghera presents his journey on learning about the colonial legacies of the British Empire and its relationship to modern-day Britain in its attitudes, demography, culture, the British museum, food, and more. He does not take on a full anti-Imperial stance and does his best to remain nuanced his view — admitting some “positive” impacts, calling the weighing of moralistic good and bad a petty game — but overall concludes that the empire and its brutal legacies deserves more elaboration in education if Britain wants to progress a society and come to face with its dark past.

Other people have this on hold at my library and I’m not going to be able to finish this tome in 4 days, no matter how hard I try.

this had some useful insights such as on education, but it was largely repetitive, not exactly groundbreaking and at times made some very tenuous links between empire and present day.
