The Other Side of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon

Steven Pacey delivers as an audiobook narrator.

As for the book itself, it starts off pretty strong with decently compelling character introductions and a prologue that skewed my expectations by seeming to set up a grander scope than we got. After the halfway mark, it devolves into some bafflingly shallow and inexplicable “twists” as characters lose any sense of agency and become pawns in some thin intrigue and a deeply underwhelming legal drama conclusion.

One of the most boring books I've ever read, including all of my exam books.

My first Sidney Sheldon book and definitely not my last. I really liked how the story started in current day to introduce characters and then went back in time to tell the story. Going between the few main characters point of view allowed me to develop empathy for the characters and their goals. I listened to the audiobook performed by Steven Pacey and he brought the story to life with his changes in accents.

A very fine read. Sydney Sheldon portrays the innerself of woman with much ease, and possibly much accuracy. The story is fantastic, and we will be gripped to the book from the beginning to the end. It's like we are seeing the whole story from their side.

I read this book because it was mentioned as one of the most read books in prison on the HBO show The Night Of. Now I understand why. It has riveting intertwining stories with humor, suspense, drama, sex, romance, and violence. I can’t remember the last time a book has intrigued me so much. I don’t know what it is about the revenge/vengeance that gets me, but it gets me every time. Also, the introduction of Constantin Demiris read like gangster commandments. Badass. Unexpected enjoyment and plot twists at the end!

let me take that all in just a moment...

Wow. What a story. Though the middle part could use some trimming, because it felt a little draggy thus the four star rating. That's the only reason why this book received a four star rating from me, and maybe Catherine's sudden stupidity at the end and Noelle's total change of heart in the middle other than that this was an amazing story.

I really liked how the author told the story from two different sides and from two different parts of the world and made them coincide together. The idea was genius. I just got a little disappointed on how Noelle and Catherine ended up in the end though, I was so into Noelle up until she had a total change of heart. Like seriously? Can love really make you that stupid? I'm glad Demiris wasn't affected by it. I panicked for a moment there when I thought he too had a change of heart. that by the way saved this book from a 3 star rating so yea.

Anyways, the world building was really magnificently done, and the characters were very distinct. It was really amazing how distinct their characters are. It's a great read. I'm thinking of reading more books by Sidney Sheldon now.

The story was slow for me (especially that I'm currently having this thing where I read one sentence 1o times), but I think it was necessary to get to know the characters. Sometimes I felt it was too slow/long. But it gets exciting towards the end and it was worth it.

I am not an expert, and my opinions are mostly about what I felt/understood reading the book, and I just want to see if some people has the same thoughts as me

I wanted Noelle to get her revenge but I knew with that much hatred of course she was still under the spell of Larry Douglas. But I was still hoping deep down that she will get what she wanted, well she did...

I had the same hope for Catherine. I just wanted both women to stop being under the spell of Douglas! I hated that man omg. I got high hopes when Douglas came back after asking for a divorce, but oh well, the book is not about that.

I think with Noelle, it was all necessary for the story, but I was hoping/guessed that Catherine was in on the plan to destroy Noelle and Douglas, yes she was alive and I'm not too sure what's going on with her exactly, but I would have liked it better if she made the plan with Demeris to destroy the two suspects.

And of course Demeris was chef's kiss! I predicted that he was going to do something, but when he visited Noelle in jail, I was so disappointed (I guess that's what makes it a good book). The book made me feel like I was in the courtroom as well. That is why I'm giving it 4 stars, one less star because it was slow for me.

What do you think?
