Gabe and Pippa are trying to start over in a new place, but unfortunately their new house is located at The Drop, an infamous place for people to jump off the cliffs to take their own lives. Gabe, however, has managed to talk several people off The Drop and save them. But one evening, Pippa spots a woman at The Drop. Gabe goes out to talk to her, but the next thing Pippa sees, Gabe is standing at the edge, and the woman is gone. Soon she realizes Gabe knew the woman. As questions start to mount, Pippa wonders if her beloved husband pushed her...

This is a fast read about marriage and murder! It was a good read, though I never felt fully invested. There's no one character you truly want to root for and the story is a bit strange, involving mental health issues, marriage problems, angry coworkers, illegal business dealings, and more. The book constantly flashes between then and now, with flashbacks to Pippa's tumultuous marriage with Gabe. There is also a POV from the victim, as she resides in the "liminal space." Some of the time switches are very abrupt, so it was hard to keep up at times. I am also not sure that THE SOULMATE always portrayed mental health in the best light. Its treatment left me feeling a little... off.

There are definitely some good twists in this one, and I flew through it. If you love dark thrillers that explore relationships, you'll enjoy THE SOULMATE. 3.5 stars.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and St. Martin's Press in return for an unbiased review.

Thank you NetGalley for this e-book ARC. Hepworth is back!!! I was captivated and encompassed the entire 3/4 of the book! THEN, Hepworth took it a step further with a twist at the end of the story, I don’t think anyone will see it coming! I for sure didn’t. She was so slick at the end. I will continue to support her when I can. Mild sexual content. Mild swearing.

Loved the book.  Found it a little annoying flipping between story lines at times but most of the time it was just enough to keep you guessing and finding little bits of info out piece by piece!

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a dual timeline, dual perspective mystery that kept the pages turning.  In it we meet two women, Pippa and Amanda, and we alternate between their narratives.  Amanda has recently fallen to her death from a steep cliff in Pippa’s backyard known as The Drop.

But did she jump?  Did Pippa’s husband, Gabe, push her?  Those are the questions the book is anchored on. And my favorite aspect - Amanda’s story is being told from the afterlife, as she watches events unfold.

I really enjoyed the two-woman narration and POVs.  There was a strange kinship between the two characters as they worked to unpack the stories of their husbands and it worked extremely well.

I’d recommend this to those who enjoy a mystery that unfolds with clues along the way and a resolved ending.  It’s not a thriller mood, more of a somber puzzle you’re solving.  Personally, the ending was not my favorite, but I thought the storytelling was effective.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the gifted and advanced copy of this novel – I really enjoyed reading it.

I was really excited to read The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth because I loved her last book, The Secrets of Midwives. And, once again, she did not disappoint! This book is gorgeously written with an amazing twisty plot.

𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨:
Gabe and Pippa Gerard have just moved into their dream house: a cliffside cottage in a sleepy coastal town outside Melbourne. It’s a fresh start to their marriage, and the perfect place to raise their two young daughters. But the house’s perfect façade hides something more sinister: The Spot, where the tall cliffs have become a popular place for those wishing to end their lives. After talking someone down from the ledge, Gabe becomes a local hero, saving person after person… until one night, he doesn’t. And Pippa sees Gabe the moment after it happened, standing alone at the cliff’s edge, arms outstretched, palms facing out.

The death is ruled a suicide— Gabe said it was a spur-of-the-moment decision— but Pippa can’t help but feel there’s more to it than that. Then she starts getting anonymous emails with snippets of people’s thoughts just before they died at The Spot. Could Gabe be behind them? As Pippa tries to uncover the truth about what happened to her husband, she comes closer and closer to a shocking answer.

𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨:
If you're looking for a spine-tingling thriller with plenty of twists and turns, The Soulmate is the perfect read. From the very first page, you'll be hooked.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠:
The writing is beautiful and lyrical, and the characters are well-developed and intriguing. I loved the suspenseful plot and the way that the story unfolded. This is a book that's hard to put down, and I raced through it in just a few hours.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣'𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠:
There were a few things that I didn't love about The Soulmate. First of all, I would have liked a little more resolution at the end - it felt like there were some loose ends left unresolved. Secondly, I wasn't entirely convinced by the romance plotline. However, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent novel.

𝙒𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩?
Overall, I would highly recommend The Soulmate to fans of domestic suspense thrillers. It's an addicting read that will keep you guessing until the very end.
