Ay.

I had to stop myself from bawling my eyes out in the middle of the night, very good read

The best book I've read this year. Heartbreaking and beautiful. A story about how love blossoms in the shadows of fame and fate.

very wholesome and sweet at the beginning when they are young. The love does happen quite fast but you can feel it is genuine as it goes along and they are made for each other. Time goes quite fast during the end third with only the most important scenes mentioned which keeps the pace up but a little jarring. The ending was very bittersweet. I really enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it. It made me very interested in Greek mythology and want to read her other book, Circe.

Rereading this for the first time since high school has been a real exercise in pride vs mortification, aka my attempts at thoughtful and critical consumption vs my renegade tear ducts. There's a lot to love, the writing is gorgeous, but the character of Patroclus suffers imo from what I am going to call blorbofication where I feel the love of the author has worn him down until his only real trait is Soft Devoted & he seems excessively passive in a way that I would struggle to accept as an authorial choice? And I felt that the primary relationship was a bit, they're in love because they're in love, I wish there'd been more to anchor us to the specific ways they matched each other. So like, look, I have critiques. I also have a headache from crying. I can't take myself seriously here and frankly nobody else should either sdghdsgjdsg
