The Song of Achilles is an absolute delight— An ancient story transformed into a modern novel. Complete with excitement and mystique. This novel weaves an enchanting bond between Achilles and Patroclus.

finally a famous book that felt like it's reasonably hyped, and the prose was beautiful

absolutely beautiful; i didn’t catch on some paragraphs because english is not my first language but i totally enjoyed everything and i can understand all the adoration this book received

For one, I still hate Achilles. For two, I dislike how undermined Patroclus was in this book. He was a warrior, not useless and meek in the slightest. Beautifully written and I can appreciate the retelling, but I can also acknowledge that this is practically pure fan fiction.

I don't know what to say.... sorry?

This is what all the hype is about? Am I missing something... maybe just the warmth in my heart. Or you know any feelings at all because this book sadly just didn't do it for me.

I REALLY wanted to love this. I wanted to be as in love with this as everyone else is. But I was pretty underwhelmed upon reading this book.

I have read Circe and was disappointed with that one also so perhaps I am just not the biggest fan of Madeline Miller's writing because something was lacking.

The first 150 pages honestly I found them fairly enjoyable. I wasn't bored, I found their romance sweet and I found them fairly interesting characters. But I don't think Achilles or Patroclus really grew from the boys we first saw them as. Somehow Madeline Miller was able to write a 350 page book that felt like a 600+ page book that just gave me nothing.

I did not root for these characters. Honestly I just wanted to see them crumble just to see if I would feel something.

"I could not even see the ugliness of the deaths anymore, the brains, the shattered bones that later I would wash from my skin and hair. All I saw was his beauty, his singing limbs, the quick flickering of his feet."
- I mean was this meant to be romantic because this was as romantic as Hannibal Lecture

Anyway... essentially just did not live up to the hype.
