Pretty good. Still in a weird western meets technology meets fantasy place that I'm not sure how I feel about. I like the characters in this a lot more and love to see Steris grow and accept herself. I like the change in both sisters in terms of how they deal with Wax and who the love interest is. I wish they hadn't set up Marasi to be a love interest at all in the start of this series because I still like that pairing better but I do like Steris and Wax's relationship towards the end of this book.

I think the beginning of this book was rushed and they needed a "plot device" to do things that then didn't super matter. Did we get to see the Kondra after Marasi got the spike back? Even though that was the entire kicking off point? Even in the epilogue? No. Do I have a good grasp on the southerners, their wants, why they were there, what their airship(s) look like, or anything about the masks? Also no. Do I understand the metallurgy being expounded on with the medallions? big NOPE. Lastly, do I have a CLUE about the lord ruler in the south or the bands of mourning or that temple EVEN THOUGH I've read the novella designed to be read here? Biggest NO yet.

But I enjoyed it!! I wish more had been explained and I hope the last book isn't just an info dump of all the missing pieces.

Finally, I'm excited to learn more about the red-eyed creeps and the Set and how that turns out. Also called the sister thing immediately!
