I loved Brave New World, so I was excited about Point Counter Point, but to be honest, it put me to sleep. Honestly. So I didn't finish it.

It was very very good and interesting! Definitely a book to recommend.
Ugh. One guy says, "A", the other says, "No, B". And then unending dialogue about each point, on subjects I have no interest in. No real story. This is how much of the book is. Thus, "Point Counterpoint". I guess if you enjoy general debate this book might interest you, but that is not my thing. It finally gets good in the last 1/5 of the book because finally there are some interesting things that happen, I wish that was how the book started!
Felt a bit too clever for its own good. More about the author's viewers than the characters' journeys. A bit illogical in parts

a book about ideas and uncertainties and conflicting ideas (points and counterpoints, so to say). i like huxley's prose when he really gets going (mainly with philip quarles and mark rampion and spandrel) about ideals and affairs and god and government and love and science.
for a book where not much actually happens, its quite full.
the ending part with beethoven's 3rd movement in string quartet no. 15 (Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenen an die Gottheit, in der Lydischen Tonart) was quite beautiful to read with the music accompanying.

There's not much of a plot to speak of--which I believe Huxley is very open about; rather this is a novel about ideas ("men with ideas"). It seems to be an exploration of the various, often conflicting philosophies and cultural trends of Huxley's age. Each is represented rather fairly, I think, and though there's not a "story" the prose is very well-wrought. It takes patience and an intellectual interest, but I'd recommend it.

Se împliniseră doi ani de când Walter şi Marjorie trăiau împreună. Doar doi ani ţinuse dragostea lui. Apoi, Walter încetase s-o mai iubească şi începuse să iubească pe alta. Păcatul săvârşit de Marjorie, ca şi situaţia ei neplăcută în ochii lumii îşi pierdeau unica scuză şi consolare. Şi mai era şi însărcinată.

Por una razón que desconozco, tenía entendido que el libro giraba en torno a un asesinato. Me equivoqué. Por lo tanto, pensaba que el principio era una introducción de los personajes. Cuando llegué a la mitad y seguía siendo lo mismo, me decepcionó un poco.

DNF at 48% - finally decided not to finish this book after leaving it untouched for months. It's a really in-depth character study, and parts of it are quite good, but overall I found it too cynical and depressing.
