A Classic Murakami with magical realism
Did not appreciate the way this guy writes women, especially ones with “lesbian” tendencies. Just super odd and unsettling writing style, that is not a compliment.
Take a shot every time Murakami mentions pubic hair
Idk about this one guys, like it was contemporary but the plot twist to multiple versions of reality kinda came out of no where and was never really resolved. It reminded me of Gatsby through the way it was told and the hindsight the narrator had, but hmmmm not convinced this was that good

I love Murakami. Surreal, symbolic, tones of references, and captivating.

I loved the characters in this book. What is the life you might have lived? Does it exist? Can you cross over?
Ler este livro foi como sonhar de olhos abertos. Não foi sobre a escrita ou sobre a história, mas sobre os sentimentos e o desconcerto que me proporcionou. Foi a primeira vez que li Murakami, mas certamente não a última.
Perfectly illustrated the cycle of romantic rejection and the inevitable suffering as a consequence. The writing was beautiful but I would have appreciated if the tangents in the book would amalgamate into more elaborate and compelleing clues which would help the audience empirically identify what happened to Sumire. But I guess the intention of the book was not to be a mystery or thriller, rather a contemporary story about three loveless individuals. The ending is quite cryptic but I believe that Sumire comitted suicide partly due to Miu's rejection and partly due to her failure in becoming a sucessful novelist. K seems to also have comitted suicide in the last scene in hopes of 'crossing a bridge' to meet Sumire in the after life/ another life as he is unable to continue living without her. Murakami probably wrote this ending to further convey the concept of unrequited love and cycle of tragedy caused by it.
