Man... what a redemptive book! Packs such a punch in just over 100 pages. Something about this one sticks to me, maybe because it is so short and I can retell myself the story over and over or maybe it's the character of Andy Catlett. We're quite different people but there must be some kindredness about us because his stories resonate with me so deeply. He's become a good pal, or I guess Wendell Berry has but in the outfit of Andy.

Troubling but beautifully written. The voice of a poet cannot be hidden, but it isn’t a book I could enjoy (apart from the beauty of the words) on a single read.

Pretty sure I just really don’t understand this. Wasn’t a big fan of the writing style. It all occurs in one day but there’s constant flashbacks to random moments in his life. Very confusing to follow.
Also, very stream of consciousness which is not my forte.

The most beautiful description of “the new heaven and the new earth” that I have ever read. I want to buy this book to keep on my shelves.

“He feels his flesh enter into mind, mind into flesh”
Berry’s work is so philosophical without losing the concrete, the relatable, and the earthy. The man is a agricultural Aristotle. This book is fantastic. It slowed me down and I still need to piece some of the timeline together. This book had one or two cringy moments for me but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Andy is a very different character than most of the other Berry characters I’ve encountered. He’s on a journey that’s so existential and he’s seldom likable but his development is so beautiful to watch.
