Last year I read book #2 in this series because I needed a certain fill for a challenge and figured bouncing around inside a romance series wouldn't matter, I probably wouldn't read any more of it. But I enjoy it so much that I backtracked to read #1 this time around and actually liked this one so much more.

The Kelly family is probably my favorite group of fictional characters almost ever. I love the mother and father, the relationship all the brothers have, the whole nine. They're wonderful to read about so the sections that aren't even about the main romance plot are just as good as the ones that are.

I had two complaints about this book:

1) I really don't like Rusty. I know her from Book #2 and I don't like her there either. I know she's added to be a testament to Marlene and Frank's good hearts, but they raised six boys who turned out pretty damn well. Rusty is unnecessary. And rude and shitty.

2) Ethan refers to Rachel as baby no less than 200 times. Almost every time he speaks to her the word baby is in the sentence. It's repetitive and just...annoying. A few here and there, okay. Every single sentence, please stop.

Apart from that, I loved this. Can't wait to pick up the third!

I love maya banks. My heart broke reading Ethan's side to this story and then following Rachel's rescue. I love how all family get involve and get in each others face like a proper big family. When brothers were fighting it reminded me so much of my family. Really looking forward to see rusty develop in books.

The kick off story in the Kelly Group International (KGI) series is one for not so faint of heart. Ethan has shut himself off form his family after the death of his wife. What forced her to leave on the plane to go overseas to help a war torn area has plagued him and kept him from living his life. So when it is leaked to Ethan that Rachael is alive and being held captive, Ethan is forced to rely on his brothers to rescue her and bring her home. But when she returns with no memory of their final days will Ethan and Rachael's love overcome the odds? Once you start this series you will not be able to stop.

The Darkest Hour, released on September 7, 2010.
Ethan's wife Rachel had died, been over a year and he receives a packet showing what could be her with some militants.
He shows the others in KGI and they also agree to help him go get her-if it is her. The story follows them in the jungle as they go to find Rachel.
Rachel is so out of it she just remembers her guardian angel will come get her and she's in so much pain...she doesn't remember them when they come to get her out of there.
Back at home their parents, Marlene and Frank come across an intruder, Rusty who appears to be a teen and starving....
Hallucinations when she is returned and others are there for support. Story also follows Rusty and her past life. Ethan still wants to learn why they kept her for over a year . Hot steamy sex scenes.
In the middle of the town learning of her return the group has a recon mission=to get a child out of harms way. Glimpses of their past married life come to light and there are threats to end her life, again...
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Ethan is a retired Navy Seal. His wife Rachel died in a plane crash after doing humanitarian aid in South America over a year ago. When he receives intelligence that she didn’t die and is being held captive in a drug cartel, he and his brothers go on a mission to bring her back home.

Rachel has had so much physical and mental trauma and give so many drugs she doesn’t remember her life before.

Amnesia books are my absolute guilty pleasure trope. If you don’t like books dealing with it - then this is a pass. But this is a fun romantic suspense with amnesia so of course I loved it.

Re-Reading this for the book club. I read it the first time and though Ethan was such a prick. He needed to be honest about what happened before she left. I had wished his brothers had F'd him up a bit at the time.

This read though, I think I felt his pain, his regret, on a different level. Rachel needed a bit of time to recover before her memory returned. I quite enjoyed this very fast paced novel. I'll be moving on to Sams' story immediately :)

I really liked the premise behind this book. I didn’t vibe with the main characters though. Ethan and Rachel have a whole lot to work through that they didn’t. On top of that rusty as a side character did nothing to add to the story?? And the way the brothers react around Rachel was a little weird in my opinion. I had some of the same thoughts as Ethan. If I ignore all that though it was interesting.
