This has been one of my favorite books for years - it’s adorable, entertaining, interesting, and all the other good adjectives. It’s basically the perfect romance novel.
My only complaint is that she wrote only a novelette of heir to edenbrooke and not a full novel:)

The reader, Emily Elizabeth HamiltonSUCKS . Everything is overly enunciated and slow. I felt like I was being read to by that mean old woman that taught me in first grade.
So I would recommend reading the book!!!! (besides, the audiobook sells for $43!) sheesh!

Maryanne the innocently oblivious and Phillip the sweetheart.
This story has twins, but it means little because they aren't identical. Yet, Maryanne and her sister Cecily grew up so close in age that everything was a competition between them, which Cecily always won. Long ago Maryanne gave up and decided to never want the same thing as Cecily ever again. This will cause much trouble in the story. Cecily who is prettier and more fashionable and better at flirting.
The girls were sent away to different houses after their mother died and their father left for Paris to wallow in his grief. An invitation comes to Maryanne to join her sister at the country estate of Edenbrooke. On the way there she will meet Philip in less than ideal circumstances after barely surviving an attack from a highwayman. At Edenbrooke she meets Philip again, who remains a mystery to her yet intent on spending as much time with her as possible. Her sister for some reason, is still in London.
This part of the story (til about halfway) is OK but a wee bit slow.
The whole book has uneven pacing and Maryanne comes across as a bit of simpleton at first. Sure she was sheltered and has always lived in the country, but it was a bit OTT. I really liked Philip's character, even though the mystery is pretty obvious from the get go.
There's a wee bit of action towards the end with a rather stupid villain.
The ending was sweet and drawn out. Alls well that ends well.
Her propensity to twirl around all the time didn't bother me.
I STRONGLY recommend following this book with it's prequel. It was super romantic and acts as a wonderful epilogue (even though it's a prequel).
