Beautiful book! Love the Regency era. Just engaged the entire time! Clean book!

This is a fun, easy, fast read. There were a ton of things I love about the book and a few things that I really dislike. Overall, I liked it. I would give this more of a 3.5 star rating, leaning towards the "really liked it" from the "liked it" (which is why I went with 4 stars) It's time period is Regency, but I wish people would stop comparing it to Jane Austen. Not even close. Donaldson lacks the depth, wit, and even emotion that Austen writes with. I didn't like just how easy it was to read. I mean, it's great for those days where you don't have a lot of time and just want to read something quickly, but I never felt like I was completely immersed in the book because it just skimmed the surface. The plot was fast moving and the language modern. I'm really okay with that because I feel it helps introduce Regency era novels to other readers. Now, my favorite part of the entire book was near the beginning: when Marianne is trying to pass herself off as a milkmaid (I still don't quite understand why, but whatever) and she pounding on the table, singing an improv song for and about cows. I'm pretty sure I laughed out loud and it keeps me giggling now. I do want to read more about Marianne and Phillip. It's overall a fun read. SUPER clean (which is a nice change from most modern novels) and the description of it as a "Proper Romance" (which I say in my head in a Proper British Accent), while silly, honestly helps set the tone for the novel. Silly and fun with a cute love story.

While at times the writing was not the best and a little more character development would have been nice, I absolutely loved the story! It did take a bit to get the story moving, but after that it was hard to put down.

Gahhhhh this is so cuuuuuute. It’s like if Pride and Prejudice was written with really accessible language to a modern reader. And overall just has more likable, less uptight characters too. LOVED it!
emotional lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No

Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I loved this book! Julianne Donaldson brings all the emotions and longing of flirting and new love to life. Such a great romance in the midst of so so many popular, yet trashy ones.

I enjoyed this book because it paints a picture of the ultimate man and an independent and high spirited woman.
The male character is first and foremost emotionally available, able to express his emotions fairly openly and be vulnerable, he knows how to flirt and how to write a very romantic letters. He is also a man of honor and courage; good looks, money and status are also a plus but seem like small change in comparison.
The female character is self-determined and does not swoon over money or title, likes to stand on her own two feet. She definitely has a healthy dose of shame and not quite in touch with her emotions when it comes to the matters of the heart, which makes her very human, realistic and relatable.

The book is more action based and makes for an easy and enjoyable read.

Absolutely, positively, charming and witty! FINALLY a story written in the 21st century that does justice to the Regency! This story brings me so much joyousness! Having just finished Pride and Prejudice prior to reading this made it very obviously modern in comparison, but it was nonetheless wonderful, lovely and endearing (o; The main heroine Marianne, was a character that had so many cycles, and she let you predict what would come next, and yet still be completely enchanted, hungry and wanting to hurry and devour every last page! At times I was pounding my head on the wall, screaming at Marianne for being so stupid, other times I was crying into my pillow for how pitiful she made me feel, or I was dragged to the edge of my seat before falling off with only the time of a brief page to collect myself with, or I was grinning stupidly or biting my lip to keep from laughing out loud. Rather than saying that Edenbrooke is an adventure story, I'd say Edenbrooke is an adventure TO READ. I found Mrs. Donaldson's writing to be refreshingly fantastic! I absolutely loved her style! This story is a perfectly short, fluffy, girly, ridiculous, lovey-dovey, absurdly feminine, chick flick, romantic, ginormous, trunking bucket of happy, warm fuzzies!! Highly recommended to any and all hopeless romantics, Shannon Hale fans and anyone that likes to twirl with their eyes closed! ;o)

This was such a charming story.
