There are some really stunning imagery and lines in here. While I like the idea of an unknowable and incomplete history, that view slips into intimate detail a bit too often for the conceit to hold. I'd rather get to know Clara through her own words, even if there are things she won't tell us, rather than lending her life importance via the vehicle of her motherhood.
