This book had a slow start, but was definitely worth it in the end. John Green does a great job with witty dialog, and writes teenagers so well. This book contains strong language and sexual situations; it may not appeal to everyone.

3.5-4 stars.
liked, but didn't love, this one. i love john green's writing and the way he writes people in particular. but the second half dragged a little for me...
still, an excellent book. i'll always love john green.

Sometimes books intended for a younger audience simply do not resonate with those of us 15-20 years older than the intended audience. This is one of them. It wasn’t a bad book. It was probably even more than an okay book. But it wasn’t written for me.
I do believe anyone who gets bent out of shape over the smoking or drinking or gods forbid the blow job should take a quick look around them or walk down the hallway of their kids school or even just scroll fb. Your kids are hearing, seeing, and doing this and more, and probably much younger than you would expect.
I went back and forth on the rating between 3&4, but just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean it wasn’t a well written book. So 4 it is.

Just as The Fault in our Stars, Looking for Alaska contains some amazingly written pieces. It took me a little longer to get into the book than with The Fault in our Stars, because I just finished that book when starting this one. Those two books are two completely different stories so I waited a couple of days before continuing. After that I finished the book in three evenings. Every time I came home from work I would go sit in my room and read. I wanted to read and know. Know what would happen next. It was a fictional story, but still you could really relate to it. I really liked the book and I was a bit shocked after what happened to Alaska, I really wished she would live and secretly fall in love with Miles. I did like what happened after, the 'looking for Alaska', finding out why it had happened. And of course the last prank, though I did expect it to be even bigger, but it was a really good prank nevertheless! I really enjoyed reading this book.
