I absolutely love the film, and the book didn't disappoint - though there were some major differences within the story compared to the film. Overall, I do think the film cleaned up the storyline a bit, and I love the fact they made The Prince a girl in the film!

DID NOT FINISH: 31%

Couldn't get into and want rooting for the characters.

Meh. First off, at 400+ pages, it was way longer than it needed to be. Cut out the dialogue randomly musing about the meaning of life and death and you might end up with a crisp, page-turning thriller. But at this length it fees bloated and…unnecessarily long.

The characters are interesting enough, but it feels as if the author is always alluding to a twist, a turn, or a surprising character trait that is never actually revealed.

The narratives are intertwined, but not enough to sustain my interest…a book like this should have you thirsty for the next chapter. If I wasn’t on an airplane with nothing else to do, I wouldn’t have finished this. After finishing each chapter, I found myself saying “I guess I’ll read another,” not “I can’t wait to find out what happens next.”

As for the ending…yeah there’s kind of a twist? But nothing is neatly or cleverly resolved, and when I finished my reaction was…that was it??
